Recent Conference and Other Projects from the Commission on Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

Grandparent and grandchild

The Commission on Grandparents Raising Grandchildren released their June 2017 newsletter highlighting their most recent conference, summer activities, and other upcoming projects.

The 2017 Conference for Grandparents Raising Grandchildren that took place on June 7 in Marlboro was quite the success. There were over 200 grandparents, kinship caregivers, and providers in attendance this year. Jarrett Krosoczka, an award winning children's book author who was raised by his grandparents, spoke about how important and influential his grandparents were in helping shape him in to the author, illustrator, man, and father that he is today.

The Commission on Grandparents Raising Grandchildren provides several summer activity ideas to keep the kids busy this summer. Some of the programs include Free Fun Fridays, Exploring Massachusetts hiking trails, beaches and other hidden treasures or creating an "I'm Bored" Jar.

As for upcoming projects, there are several things to watch for in the Fall of 2017. The Commission on Grandparents Raising Grandchildren will be holding 6 Regional Workshops for Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, a Workshop on How to Start a Support Group, a Statewide Resource Network Meeting and more.
