Word of Mouth, a newsletter that discusses the ongoing battle against hunger in Massachusetts, highlighted the work different organizations are doing to support Puerto Rican self-evacuees in its most recent issue. The efforts of the Holyoke based Enlace de Familias Resource Center are detailed including the number of people the center serves each week and the services they offer, including providing food, and guidance in finding temporary housing.
Betty Medina Lichtenstein, Executive Director of Enlace de Familias, appears in the story as well and speaks to the challenges Puerto Rican refugees are facing, saying: “Every case is individual. These families have just gone through the absolute worst experience of their lives; and then they come here and have to deal with a lot of uncertainty.”
